Meet PAM: Raising awareness through education and empowerment
World Parkinson's Day, observed annually on 11th of April, marks the birthday of Dr James Parkinson, who first described the condition in 1817. In 2025, the global Parkinson's community unites under the theme "Meet PAM" (Parkinson's Awareness Month), a bold initiative launched by the Parkinson's Foundation. This campaign aims to raise awareness, educate the public, and empower those living with Parkinson's Disease (PD).
The Mandatory Training Group proudly supports World Parkinson's Day 2025 and the month-long "Meet PAM" campaign. As leaders in compliance training and healthcare education, we understand the importance of increasing awareness, encouraging early diagnosis, and improving the quality of care for individuals affected by Parkinson's.
What is Parkinson's disease?
Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, balance, and coordination. The loss of dopamine-producing brain cells causes it. Common symptoms include tremors, stiffness, slow movement, and speech difficulties.
- More than 10 million people worldwide live with Parkinson's disease.
- In the UK, around 153,000 people are affected.
- It is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world.
Despite its prevalence, public understanding of Parkinson's remains limited. That's where "Meet PAM" steps in.
Theme 2025 - Meet PAM (Parkinson's Awareness Month)
The 2025 theme, "Meet PAM", is more than just a campaign - it’s a call to action. PAM serves as an educational guide throughout April, tackling five key topics week by week:
- Understanding Parkinson's Disease
- Recognising Early Signs
- Managing Symptoms
- Navigating Disease Progression
- Exploring Research and Innovations
This structured approach makes information more accessible and empowers people to take action through self-awareness, advocacy, or support.
Why World Parkinson’s Day matters
Parkinson’s disease doesn’t just affect individuals - it impacts families, communities, and healthcare systems. World Parkinson’s Day brings global attention to the urgent need for:
- Earlier diagnosis and intervention
- Better support services
- Increased research funding
- Public education and stigma reduction
It’s a time to elevate the voices of those living with Parkinson’s and the caregivers who support them every day.
How to get involved
You can take action this April by:
- Sharing stories and social media posts using the hashtag #MeetPAM
- Wearing silver or blue, the colours of Parkinson’s awareness
- Organising or attending community events and fundraisers
- Enrolling in Parkinson ’s-related training and educational courses
