My MS diagnosis: Building awareness for a timely and accurate MS journey
Every year on 30 May, individuals, communities, and organisations across the globe unite for World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day. This international initiative aims to increase understanding, spark dialogue, and advocate for those living with MS. The 2025 campaign continues under the powerful theme “My MS Diagnosis”, encouraging the global community to prioritise early and accurate diagnosis, reduce barriers to care, and promote patient-centred stories.
Coordinated by the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF), World MS Day is a collaborative effort driven by personal experiences and global action. At The Mandatory Training Group, we are proud to support this campaign through education, awareness, and the compliance tools available through ComplyPlus™.
What is multiple sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibres (myelin), disrupting communication between the brain and body. MS can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including:
- Fatigue
- Numbness or tingling
- Muscle weakness or spasms
- Vision problems
- Memory and cognitive challenges
- Coordination and mobility difficulties.
MS affects more than 2.8 million people worldwide, but many face delayed or missed diagnoses due to the disease's complex and varied presentation. Timely diagnosis can change the course of someone’s life, allowing access to treatments, support, and hope.
The 2025 Theme - “My MS Diagnosis”
The “My MS Diagnosis” campaign gives a platform to those who have lived through the emotional, physical, and often frustrating journey to an MS diagnosis. It sheds light on the long waits, misdiagnoses, lack of awareness, and systemic challenges that individuals face before receiving an accurate diagnosis.
This year’s campaign aims to:
- Amplify personal narratives from people living with MS across different regions and cultures.
- Raise global awareness of the early symptoms and diagnostic pathways of MS.
- Enhance diagnostic processes by providing healthcare professionals with improved training.
- Promote equitable access to MS diagnostic tools, particularly in under-resourced areas.
- Emphasise the importance of early intervention and comprehensive support following diagnosis.
Through these actions, the campaign seeks to ensure that people experiencing early MS symptoms are not dismissed, overlooked, or left without answers.
The importance of early and accurate diagnosis
Early diagnosis of MS is not only about medical treatment but also about dignity, empowerment, and access to resources. Many people with MS experience years of uncertainty, seeing multiple specialists, undergoing countless tests, and being misdiagnosed with other conditions.
An accurate diagnosis enables:
- Early treatment to slow disease progression.
- Access to specialist care, including neurologists, physical therapists, and mental health professionals.
- Greater psychological well-being, knowing that symptoms are real and understood.
- Community support and connection with others who share similar experiences.
For healthcare professionals, early diagnosis also depends on training, awareness, and up-to-date clinical knowledge, which are core components of our offerings at The Mandatory Training Group.
