How to use a CPR face shield

The face shield shown in the image is a resuscitation face shield used during mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to provide personal protection against cross-contamination. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it based on the instructions from the packaging:

1. Open the shield - Ensure you have clean hands before handling the shield. Remove it from its packaging carefully.
2. Place the shield - Place the clear polythene shield over the patient’s face. The round filter paper should be positioned directly over the patient’s mouth.
3. Position and hold - Hold the shield as illustrated on the packaging, ensuring a secure placement with the filter pad over the mouth to allow airflow.
4. Perform resuscitation - Begin mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by blowing through the filter while ensuring the shield stays in place.
5. Single-use only - Once used, the face shield should be discarded appropriately.
