Women are celebrated throughout March for their exceptional roles and significant contributions. The month-long celebration aims to promote gender equality and recognise women for their diverse roles and accomplishments across the globe.

In this article, I will discuss the challenges that I had to endure, including inequalities and discrimination. I will also discuss the many struggles women have faced for many years.

My third blog

Having received an overwhelming response to my first blog, I realised that many women needed to hear my story, which led to the creation of my second blog. My goal is for every woman to feel empowered and to be able to stand up for what they believe in.

I am writing this third blog to encourage women to face whatever problems they are experiencing head-on. No matter how difficult the situation may seem, you can overcome it.

I am aware that it is more challenging than it sounds. I was once in your position, but now I have taken simple steps that put me in a better position. It took me some time to realise that women must be empowered to:

  • Have a purpose
  • Believe in what they are doing
  • Build self-confidence and raise self-esteem
  • Encourage and inspire others
  • Motivate others to advance in their careers
  • Speak up freely
  • Promote gender equality and fairness.

Societal inequality for women

Women's month is a global celebration of women's achievements, contributions, and potential. Unfortunately, many women continue to face issues, such as:

  • Gender discrimination
  • Harassment
  • Lack of access to basic education
  • Lack of opportunities to earn or lead
  • Inequality and concerns around work-life balance.

Although women are the primary caregivers around the world, some do not speak up because they are silenced or fear being unheard or unvalued. As women, we often do more work and forget about ourselves and our well-being.

Women amidst challenges

As I mentioned in my first blog, I have worked in the health and social care sector for 15 years, where I have had firsthand experience of being held back by fear and assumptions about multitasking and priorities. As a result of cultural mindsets and stereotypes, I have also been denied access to many resources and faced gender discrimination. Yet, I did not let these challenges stop me from achieving my purpose and goals.

Many women are holding themselves back from their full potential, and it's time to change that. We have come a long way as women, but we are not done yet. There is no better time than now to reflect on how far we've come as women and how far we still have to go.

Conclusion

It has been difficult for many women to be heard and validated as individuals. Let's take advantage of this opportunity to network and realise every woman's potential and take this time to find our voice and connect with other women worldwide who share our experiences.

By sharing my story, I hope to inspire and encourage other women to tell their stories, share opportunities, build a network for progress and much-needed stability, and empower and learn from each other. We need to be at the top of our game.
