First aid is the initial or immediate assistance given to an injured person before the arrival of medical assistance.

This Paediatric First Aid Awareness e-learning course gives you sufficient awareness of paediatric first aid. You will obtain knowledge of dealing with common first aid situations and understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant or child.

Explain the sequence of the 4 Bs
Explain the aims of first aid
Know how to respond in both an emergency and non-emergency situation involving children and babies
Recognise how to help an unconscious child or baby
Explain how to perform CPR and the recovery position
Develop confidence in treating minor and major bleeds
Identify different types of choking and practical advice on responding to incidents
Know the signs and symptoms of childhood illnesses and allergies and guidance on treatment.

Define paediatric
Identify the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
List the contents in a paediatric first aid kit
Differentiate between an infant and a child for the purposes of first aid
Conduct a primary survey on an infant and a child
Know who to call in an emergency
List some of the life-threatening conditions that can result from respiratory distress
List the correct sequence of 4 Bs
Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Demonstrate CPR using an infant and a child manikin
Justify when to place an infant or a child into the recovery position
Demonstrate how to place an infant and a child into the recovery position
Identify when a child or infant is choking
Know how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is choking
Identify how to administer first aid for an infant or a child who is suspected to be suffering from diabetes, asthma or allergic reaction
Recognise suspected anaphylaxis in an infant or a child
Demonstrate the use of a training device adrenaline auto-injector.
Demonstrate how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with external bleeding.
