Why is Skills for Health aligned mandatory + statutory training required?
Healthcare professionals are now highly mobile. In addition, many agency and locum workers work in various NHS and private sector settings. There is need to ensure that all healthcare workers receive appropriate training in line with their job responsibilities. The Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) was developed to standardise mandatory and statutory training for those who work in NHS Trusts, community settings and the private sector.
There is now a requirement that all health professionals working directly or indirectly for the NHS (for example through locum and recruitment agencies) should complete training that is aligned the Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework. All the classroom and online mandatory and statutory training courses are fully mapped to the Skills for Health's Core Skills Training Framework.
Our CSTF aligned classroom mandatory training course covers all the practical aspects that are required for manual handling objects and people moving and handling, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, safe use of the automated external defibrillator and effective team working during resuscitation.
It is recommended that all nurses, allied health professionals, doctors and other health workers should complete the practical mandatory training every year.

Is the CSTF training the same as 'all in one day' mandatory training?
The 'All in One Day Mandatory Training' typically covers about 12 or 13 subjects delivered in one session on the same day. Although there are some benefits of this type of mandatory training, it is not recommended for healthcare professionals working in the NHS or similar private healthcare settings.
The 'All in one day mandatory training' course is not aligned to the Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF). As such, locum and nursing agencies do not accept the 'one day mandatory training course' and NHS recruitment frameworks will not accept staff who have attended this training.
Healthcare organisations have a responsibility to ensure that the type of mandatory training they select meet the requirements of their work environments. Individuals should check with their employers before they book training courses to ensure that they attend the correct course.
The Mandatory Training Group will not be held responsible for those who select the wrong mandatory training course.
What are the benefits of CSTF aligned mandatory + statutory training?
The Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework provides a standard to which statutory and mandatory training should be delivered at. Considering that the healthcare workforce has become more mobile, there is need to reduce the variation in the quality of training provided across the UK.
Mandatory Training is a compulsory requirement for all healthcare staff working across the UK, including NHS and non-NHS healthcare employees. This also includes locum doctors, bank and temporary staff, agency workers and agency nurses. Mandatory training is a compulsory requirement based upon the responsibility for medical, nursing and other health care staff to work in a safe and appropriate manner. Our Skills for Health aligned mandatory training courses will enable healthcare staff to be compliant with their mandatory training requirements.
Can the CSTF aligned mandatory training be used for revalidation?
We receive many enquiries relating to revalidation for nurses and whether our mandatory training certificates can be used as CPD evidence for revalidation. Since April 2016, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) introduced a system called revalidation. This requires all nurses and midwives to provide evidence that they completed 40 hours of continuous professional development (CPD) every three years when they renew their registration.
The Mandatory Training Group's mandatory training courses (both the generic mandatory training and the Skills for Health aligned mandatory training courses) can be used by nurses and midwives as evidence of CPD hours attained when they complete revalidation. Nurses and midwives can also use our online statutory and mandatory training, as well as specialist health and social care courses for their continuing professional development.
To book CSTF aligned mandatory training at your workplace or chosen venue (any suitable venue in the UK), please send our Support Team an Email or contact them by phone on 024 7610 0090, stating your training requirements.
