The sessions are freely available to all health and social care staff.

Can these online courses be used for Care Quality Commission compliance?

It is the responsibility of individual health and social care employer organisations to ensure that their workforce complete the appropriate training to comply with their statutory and mandatory requirements. It is also an employer’s responsibility to determine the best mode of delivering the training, whether that is face-to-face, elearning or a blended approach. How are learners assessed for these eLearning courses?

The eAssessments within the session consist of two, randomly selected, multiple-choice questions per learning outcome. The eAssessments have an 80% pass rate and allow learners three attempts. If they fail, they are encouraged to review the knowledge chapters. As learners work through the eAssessment, they get feedback on both correct and incorrect answers.

Each session takes about 20 minutes to complete the knowledge chapters and approximately 10 minutes to complete the eAssessment. Please refer to the ‘Session Overview’ chapter for the estimated duration for each session.

The UK CSTF addresses this issue. It allows employers to recognise statutory/mandatory training to a standard, trust that information and reduce duplication of training. We often get asked “What is the difference between mandatory and statutory training?” - Mandatory training differs from statutory training as they are usually made compulsory by the organisation to ensure their employees are competent to reduce risks, follow guidelines and comply with their policies. Statutory training is required by law or a statutory body such as the Care Quality Commission has instructed the organisation to carry the training to meet legislative requirements.

Health Education England, working in partnership with Skills for Health, have conducted a review of the minimum requirements for statutory and mandatory training during the Covid-19 outbreak to support management of the pandemic by the NHS.

Staff Returning to the NHS

Staff who have left the NHS and are now returning to practice to support the management of Covid-19 cases, should undertake 4 statutory/mandatory e-learning modules as part of the induction to their role, prior to starting in post:

• Infection Prevention and Control – Level 2
• Resuscitation – Level 2 Adults.
