What Should You Do if a Choking Casualty Becomes Unconscious?
Dealing with a casualty who is choking can be frightening, but what if that casualty becomes unconscious?
Would you know what to do? It can be easy to panic in those situations. Some people just freeze and don’t do anything.
In this blog, we will be explaining what you should do if a choking casualty becomes unconscious.
If the casualty becomes unconscious
If a conscious choking adult becomes unconscious, follow these steps:
- Carefully lower the person to the ground, open their mouth and look for an object.
- If an object was seen, scoop it with your finger whilst being careful not to push the item further down the casualty's throat.
- Open the person's airway by tilting the head and try to give two rescue breaths.
- Begin CPR at a rate of 30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths.
